Martha’s Birthday Shoes

Last week I found myself overwhelmed and a bit obsessed.  Starting this blog has been something I have wanted to do for a long time.  It is also a learning curve I am working at overcoming, hence the overwhelmed and obsessed feeling.  Needing help and a need to calm these feelings, I hopped in the car and headed to New York City for the BlogHer ‘12 Conference.  Joining a dynamic community of 5,000 women bloggers, we descended upon the hot humid city for a few days of education and networking and to experience keynote sessions from President Obama, Katie Couric and Martha Stewart.  This was the place to be!

I gained a lot of knowledge by attending BlogHer and it was one of the best last minute decisions I have ever made.  With everything I gained, I have to share with you the one take away I can’t seem to stop talking about – Martha Stewart’s shoes.  Shocking, I know.  Martha Stewart has never been known for her fashion or shoes.  Perfectionist, demanding, innovator, ex-con, yes – shoe whore, not so much!

Celebrating her birthday that day, Martha strutted onto the stage in these amazing orange platform sandals.  Known to wear mostly earthtones, (hello khaki’s and chambray shirts) this was very un-Martha.  They were some HOT shoes!  And even more shocking was she is 71!!!  Once again Martha surprised us.  Another reason to be wowed by this stepford homemaker who single-handedly created the lifestyle brand and whom women strive to emulate.  I bow down!!!

Inspired by Martha’s orange platforms, I did a bit of shopping so you, too, can find your hot pair of orange shoes.  Take notice Grandma – it’s time to put your orthopedic shoes away.  If Martha can wear a hot pair of shoes at 71, so can you!

Want to add a bit of orange to your wardrobe just in time for early fall?  Below are ideas of accessories you can wear to easily add a splash of orange to a favorite jeans outfit.  Just like Martha!

Notice I couldn’t resist adding a bit of leopard to the mix!  How are you going to add some orange to your wardrobe this fall?
