It’s not New Year’s Eve without some libations! With our fondue menu I want to find just the right drinks to go along with the meal. Since it is fondue, I think wine pairings are the way to go. Keeping in mind that one of my new year’s resolutions is being more budget conscious, I thought why not start my resolution early and look for great wines that are under $15.
A Sauvignon Blanc or a Melbec would pair well with the cheese fondue. I am always a fan of the Alamos Melbec and my favorite Oyster Bay Sauvignon Blanc that can be easily found.
When moving on to the meat fondue a red wine is the safest way to go to accompany the variety of meat and dipping sauces. Try a Syrah, Spanish Rioja or Cotes du Rhone. If you have guests who really don’t enjoy red wine and prefer white you can try a California Chardonnay as a safe pairing that can hold up to the meat.
A nice accompaniment for dessert and the chocolate fondue is a Cabernet Sauvignon or Port. You can also try a Gewurztraminer which has a nice sweet taste and makes it a lovely pairing with the chocolate.
And since it is New Year’s Eve, you really can’t go wrong with champagne or a sparkling wine. I am a fan of Prosecco myself as I find it smoother than Champagne and you can find some economical versions a bit easier than Champagne. No one wants to start the new year with a cheap champagne hangover – brutal!
Want to add a signature drink or champagne cocktail to the celebration. You can find a fun list of drinks from my Glitz and Glamour Cocktail Party post.
Hope you’ve had a lovely holiday week. Enjoy your weekend and check back with Pin It Blog New Year’s Eve as we add the final touches to our New Year’s Eve Celebrations.
