Good Bye Summer!!!

It’s officially over – summer!  As I sit here a bit tired and sunburned after a fabulous long weekend at the beach, I find myself thinking about what a wonderful summer it has been.  It has been full of adventure, life changes and new beginnings.  As we close out the summer, I thought it would be fun to share some of my favorite scenes.

Relaxing days hanging on the hammock in my family’s backyard in Windham, ME.

I took a trip to Buffalo, NY to visit my brother and sister-in-law and to meet their newborn son, my nephew, Oliver.  Here is the view from the Lake Erie waterfront where they keep their sailboat.

Ah, Chatham’s Bar Inn in Chatham, MA where they serve a mean Dark n’ Stormy on the porch.  Great way to kick off a girls’ weekend on the Cape and Nantucket.

Crane Beach – stunning!!!

Girls’ weekend on Nantucket!

Kayaking with Sammy on Spot Pond.

Peaks Island – a quick ferry ride 15 minutes from Portland, ME.  An amazing place for a last minute scenic dinner with friends.

I heart Watchic Lake in Standish, ME.  After many years away, a last minute decision to visit brought back so many childhood summer memories.  I was so lucky to grow up spending summers here.

Labor Day sunset on Good Harbor Beach in Gloucester, MA.  Fitting way to close summer.

Life definitely has not sucked these past few months and having the freedom and flexibility I’ve had allowed me to cease the summer moments.

I will forever be grateful for the summer of 2012 but look forward to fall and all it brings with it – foliage, boots and sweaters, warm days and cool nights, and red wine.

Friday Field Trip – Myopia Polo

I have always wanted to go to a polo game.  Having watched Pretty Woman way too many times to count, I imagined going to a game as the perfect opportunity to wear a fabulous hat, drink champagne and maybe meet my own Prince (Harry, William…) or gorgeous Argentinean player….hello Nacho Figueras (my kind of Nachos)!

This past weekend, I finally got my act together and organized a visit to Myopia Polo with a couple friends in honor of my birthday. Located in South Hamilton on Massachusettes’ North Shore, Myopia is the oldest active Polo Club in the US and was the perfect site for my inaugural polo experience.  It was a hot sunny day that called for a bottle of wine and some light sandwiches for pre-game tailgating.  Of course I couldn’t resist wearing a fabulous hat!

It was a glorious afternoon and a great way to experience polo and celebrate my birthday.  At $10 a person, it was a very budget and family friendly afternoon.

This having been my first time, I was able to get a feel of the atmosphere and can’t wait to go again.  Next time I plan to step up my tailgate game.  Here are some ideas I found for future visits.

Fun Hats Options

Yummy polo tailgate food using the abundant fresh fruit of summer.

Apricots with Basil-Goat Cheese and Almonds

Grilled Ciabatta, Ricotta Cheese, Fresh Blueberries, Organic Honey & Mint

Peach Caprese

Blackberry Fennel Pizza

Surely, we will need some champagne to celebrate.  How about this amazing mimosa bar?

And of course a chic setting is important.  Here are some ideas I found on Pinterest.
